Gearbox and drive

Clutch

Dry twin plate, F&S PF220K.

Gearbox

ZF Kb40D, 2x4 forward, 2x1 reverse, sliding-mesh, non-synchronised. Ratios: I - 6,50, II - 3,20, III - 1,74, IV - 1,00, Reverse - 6,50.

Auxiliary gearbox

Ratios: Street 1,684, terrain - 2,52. Driven by a short propeller shaft. Two ratios are provided.

Differential

Conventional controlled. The steering brakes are mounted co-axially with the half-shafts and are pneumatically operated. The road brakes are not integral with the sprockets. The half-shafts drive the sprockets through a final reduction gear on each of the main chassis members.

Steering

The front wheels are steered by means of a ZF Ross worm-and-cam type device. A pneumatic valve operates the track brakes when the steering wheel reaches a 5 degree angle. A lever on the dashboard enables braking each track independently. This is new to halftrack design. It allows the vehicle to be driven on one track only. Handy when one track slips or when removing tracks.

Winch

Optional on the softskinned versions only is a 5 ton winch. It is powered from the auxiliary gearbox by means of a propeller shaft and worm gear.
